Is anyone here playing one of these? I believe that they stopped making them, as they did with their praised Magnum. I’m curious what other people think of these.
I am sure that Mac 8's were made by Macsax AFTER the split with Phil. But I can't say if they changed the horn. And Beason did all of the set ups on the Macsax Mac 8's originally - so I've been told, anyway. I HAD one that he had set up and I liked it much better than the Barone Vintage - which, again, Someone told me were the same horn. From playing them I'd say the Mac 8 was quite different. Much bigger bottom end. And the Beason set-up - maybe ANY really really good tech's set up - makes everything sound better.Wasn't the Mac8 the collaboration with Phil Barone? That was before Beason joined up with them. Although, not every horn actually has his setup during the time following the Mac8.
I'd call up Ken Beason to confirm. There were some horns sold because of his name on the website but not set up by him. He keeps a list of the serial numbers so I'd go to him instead of the company for confirmation.I am sure that Mac 8's were made by Macsax AFTER the split with Phil.
