Hey All,

I've seen owners clubs for all the other saxophones on this forum but nothing for the Conn M series.

277xxx 6m metro: Perfect lead alto horn, really sings and has a thickness between the notes that I've never experienced before on any other horn!

319xxx 10m: The tail end of the RTH horns I had an earlier 10m a while back but I sold it and got this. The intonation is much greater and still has that bigness that 10ms are known for.

259xxx 12m: Technically a tranny but hot damn does this horn sound good! This is my favorite horn period! It's got a huge rich tone and I find myself practicing this horn more then the others.

Congrats on your great collection. I bet they play and sound as Good as they look.

I have two Conn tenors but only one is an early M series. However it does not have the 10M stamp. So I don’t know if that counts. Great player though.

Sure does, my 12m does not have the stamp either. If you got same side bell keys, you can be in the club!

This is my 10M, serial number 340XXX, which puts it towards the end of 1950. It's after the mythical 1947 RTH cutoff, but I don't really notice any deficiencies from behind the horn. Picked it up in great shape from another SOTW-er, with almost no lacquer wear anywhere on it. This thing must have sat in a closet for most of its life. That's a shame because it absolutely rips. It's got a massive sound and a really nice, light, fast key action. Much, much lighter than my Selmer, Yamaha or the King I just picked up.

All I've had done to it since I got it is move the strap hook down and some basic work to get a few leaks out. Someday I might go for the full setup and everything, but it doesn't really need much. As it stands, I usually reach for this one over my Selmer that I've sunk over 3.5 times as much into. Not that the Selmer isn't a great horn as well. The 10M is just where I'm at these days.

I bought an ebay 10 M last year serial 7969×× shipped to the U.K. cleaned and repadded myself. Not a collectors horn no RTH a repaired dent on the neck and palm key area but plays really well with good intonation in the palm key area . I prefer it to my Cannonball V.R.

No pics but I have:

a 243,xxx bari , 250,xxx tenor w/ the Art Deco engraving (both dark re-lacq's) and a bare brass 160,xxx straight sop .

No alto-- keep meaning to pick another one up -- it'll happen .

Alto: 326,000 (1946ish), no lacquer left, I bought this horn for $130 in 1978 from Pete's Pawn and Music in Garland, Tex. and it's been my main alto ever since. Best saxophone ever built, in my opinion.

Tenor: don't remember SN but it's around 1949, straight tone holes, silver plate. No low D warble - this might be because it's got a Pan Am neck. Bought this in '99 from Wichita Band. It was a close call between this one and a silver Selmer Super, but the Selmer was $1000 more. I think I gave $2200 or thereabouts for the Conn with a fresh overhaul.

Baritone: 310,000 (46ish), silver, in my opinion this is the best vintage of 12M as it is new enough to have the front F and old enough to have the fork Eb and rolled tone holes (though I'm not convinced the RTH actually do anything). This horn has so many miles on it! Baritone has been my primary saxophone since I bought it in 1984. There are dozens of solder repairs. I have worn all the plating off the neck (how? Just handling it to put it on and off the horn? I dunno.) The pearls are all eroded from decades of use. I'll put this horn up against anything made at any time for power and tone quality, yet it can play pppp on low Bb all day long.

I bought the baritone from Richard Thomas in Carrollton, for $750, and for years thereafter when I brought a horn in for adjustment he would try to buy it back from me.

I lucked into mine in 2017. Both were local buys.

The 6M is a great alternative to my Mark VI which has a classic Phil Woods kind of sound, brighter and more focused, whereas the 6M is more resonant, spread and full sounding.

The seller of the 10M was a retired high-school music teacher who told me the previous owner bought it new and recently sold it to a music shop which didn't know what to do with it so they contacted him to sell it. It looks hardly ever played. I'm often too scared to play it out.

Same side bell keys, so as I understand it that puts it on the 6M end of the transitional features.

Love the engraving, that is simply stellar. Especially love the pentagonal frame variant being a little different than the usual Ladyface. Beautiful all over. I'd happily covet it if you ever thought of parting ways with it...

Well, you started off with a bang! Great first post, beautiful horn, welcome to SOTW.

I'll join you in the Transitional/Early 6M club (257XXX). Then, 10M (329XXX), and a Pan-American 46M (P19XXX).

Well, it's not a real Holton, it's a Couturier branded Holton Collegiate. It's not very good. I had a real Holton years ago and it was great. The Holton/Couturier has been replaced by a Buescher True Tone which is a very fine instrument.

245k SN, just at the beginning of left side bell keys. It's a somewhat recent purchase so it may be a while before I'd consider selling ?

To me the interesting thing about this Sun Goddess engraving is the heavy emphasis on that dark cloud thing right behind the figure instead of the sun rays. I'd be interested to know what that is supposed to be.
