Does anyone know this piece? I just ran across it in the Londeix book yesterday. I love Foss's music, and I'm just wondering how this compares...Are there any recordings of it floating around out there? ahmAngelahm

My quartet here at USM looked at it at one point. It was written for the Amherst Quartet, and I believe they may have recorded it, but I'm not sure. Angel would be the man who knows the answer to that. Interesting work...

The Foss was recorded by Amherst. My quartet, the New Hudson Saxophone Quartet (NHQ) performed it last year in NYC as part of the American Composer's Alliance music festival. It is quite difficult with great detailed intricacies, but we wound up liking it very much. The ACA has contracted us to record this work and others by ACA composers for the Capstone label. Recording will commence this fall.

Amherst Saxophone Quartet CD "Mozart to Modern", which I've seen sold for less than $5 a pop used on eBay and Amazon Marketplace.
