hello,
i am playing a king zephyr alto
I can produce note in the low register if i play it loud with a lot of air
however, i cannot play it soft (it usually jump an octave)
Besides, low notes such as Bb tend to vibrate so much that it sounds like I m growling when I dont mean to ....
is it possible to play it in a lower volume or with less vibration? how?
Thank you

you might try a softer reed, or think of shaping your throat as though you were singing a very low note. a constant airstream is also important. It's hard to say without seeing or hearing you play.

Have you had the horn checked for leaks? that might be a cause of some of your troubles.

my band teacher always said not to change the speed of the air, but instead change the size of your air stream. play with a smaller air stream in the lower register (like blowing into a coffee stirrer vs. a McDonalds straw).
