Ok ok... I know what a lot of people will say, so let me preface what I am and am not looking for. When it comes to mouthpieces, I am already really happy with some of my mouthpieces. Specifically, the metal pieces I still have. I recently sold/traded a few, but let it be known that I have a general preference towards metal based on the shape of the mouthpiece and how it fits my embouchure.

But...

I am currently looking for some in hard rubber for different characteristics than that of the metal pieces I play. Currently my primary is a Navarro Bebop Special and my secondary is a No USA Florida STM. I am thinking of looking for either a Slant Sig or Reso chamber or something the like in a smaller tip. Not ridiculously small but small; that I can play with 2x4s for reeds. On alto I play HR most often and I have considered going that route. I play a Lamberson on alto and have for years. Basically, I am looking for something with a concise tone. Focused may be the wrong term but warm and darker may not be out of line. I am not counting out other options so the two mentioned above aren't the only options. This is more a right tools for the job experimentation more than that I need this to be complete type of thing. I am even considering getting something and sending it to a refacer to just make what I want so... either way. I would be interested to here suggestions based on sound type. Also, I'm not really on a budget for this; more I'll pay what I think it is worth within reason. Example, I don't think $2500 is reasonable for a Reso, but I'm not afraid to pay for what I want. For what it is worth, my Tenor has so far been extremely mouthpiece friendly. I've been playing an Ishimori UL no F# for the past few months. Thanks in advance.

Drake, Bunte, 10mfan Classic or Merlot are all cheaper and more efficient options. Navarro pieces are great, too, but more expensive. Love those Ishimori horns. Are you familiar with Woodwind Co. and Vibrator pieces? Excellent, vintage alternatives to a Reso chamber.

Phil-Tone Sapphire or Intrepid, respectively. I've committed to the Intrepid for the last several years, and sold my "collection" (Barone, Lamberson, Vandoren, and more). I play Borgani Jubilee tenors, both bore sizes. Talk to Phil about dialing in your needs.

@saxyjare01 I have two Navarro pieces; an HR and a metal. My main piece is the Navarro metal. It is not dark but is it flexible.

@Sigmund451 It's in the original post in the last paragraph but, my main tenor is an Ishimori Woodstone unlacquered without F#. My main alto is a Selmer Balanced Action 28k.

Price is not my concern, finding something that does what I want it to do is. Equipment is only there to help us have an easier time being who we are on the instrument so....

Saxscape SL Slant was a great piece at a phenomenal price. The Matt Marantz Slant Legacy is probably amazing as well, I have loved everything I had from Matt (multiple refaced, a double ring legacy and a NY Legacy). For the price, I'd try the GS Reso though

I have recently purchased the Get A Sax Reso tenor mpc and love it! At present it is only available in a 7* but I find it easier to play than my Theo Wanne Gaia which is also a 7*. It produces a beautiful warm even tone through the full range of the horn, and is an absolute bargain in my opinion!

Well, I'm going to point out some obvious choices.

Meyer
Link "New Vintage"
Brilhart Ebolin or Tonalin
Selmer Soloist

These are all the kind of middle of the road designs that you can make sound however you want them to (within limits; none of these will sound like a Dukoff or like a Rascher style).

Frankly I question the spending of more than $400 for any mouthpiece, especially things like vintage Links that were middle-priced products made 70 years ago to very average quality control standards, and have then been subjected to who knows what.

I also would question the idea of going on a lengthy and expensive mouthpiece hunt in vintage land, knowing that al your efforts at finally finding the "one true mouthpiece" could be for naught in a split second if you drop it on its tip or your horn gets stolen. The pieces I've listed above could be replaced at a moment's notice for short money.

The only times I find myself wanting to go on a mouthpiece quest are the times when I haven't been practicing enough. Just sayin'...

Might want to try an Otto Link New Vintage Slant HR mpc for about $150 . Buy it a half size smaller and send it to The Mouthpiece Guys ( Brian/Erik ) to have them customize it to your specs . Mpc + Refacing = about $300 .

So, I appreciate the replies. I think I have made more my choice for the moment. Not really looking for middle of the road really though. I’ve been having conversations with Matt Marantz and I think I am going to work with him on a piece.
