Hey just wondering what kind of ligatures you guys are using on your guadalas. I have heard the selmer 404 for metal alto works, but I would like your guys' input on what you have played and how you would rate it.

Cheers,
Matt

Just tried some ligatures yesterday on my new DG King. The stock lig (a Rovner copy) wasn't bad at all althought I've read here that it won't fit but mine did. I also tried FL Ultimate lig and a 2-screw basic ligature. The FL was the most free-blowing of those three. The stock lig dampened the sound a bit but the mouthpiece was most controllable with that ligature. The standard 2-screw metal lig was something between those two. So far I like the stock ligature best due to it's better control. The mouthpiece is already very free-blowing so the FL Ultimate Lig's added free-blowingness didn't do much for me.

I'm curious to know what reeds people use on their DG Kings? So far I had some luck with Hemke 2's and Vandoren Blue Box 2's.

I play an old guardala mb and used the selmer 402 the last 15 years with good results. I recently got a SAXXAS. It is even better than the selmer but also more expensive. I don´t like the different rovners I tried. They always dampened the sound alot.

I've had my DG Studio for years, and used an expensive and no longer available Winslow for 10 years or so. It was great, but tended to move if you moved the mouthpiece to tune. I switched to the Selmer 402, and it's every bit as good as the Winslow at 1/4 the price. I don't know why, but it beats the heck out of other 2 screw metal ligatures. Get the Selmer, you won't be sorry.

There are several threads on this subject if you use the search function. The consensus seems to be the alto Selmer 402 or a Rovner, (a real one, not the BS one they send with it now). BTW, all the Guardala tenor models are the same size, except for the "Fat Boys", so if you see a thread about a lig with a MB II, or whatever, it will work for the King.
