Believe it or not, the Nesuhi Ertegun Hall of Fame at Jazz at Lincoln Center does not yet include Dexter Gordon. Voting is now open to elect the class of 2015 via this link: http://academy.jazz.org/hall-of-fame/
The saxophone section of the Ertegun HOF, which began in 2004, currently includes Sidney Bechet, John Coltrane, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Johnny Hodges, Sonny Rollins, Benny Carter, and Ornette Coleman.
But no Dexter!
This must be rectified.

I voted- thanks! I always liked this Dexter quote: "Jazz to me is a living music. It's a music that since its beginning has expressed the feelings, the dreams and hopes of the people..."
--and this one: "In nuclear war all men are cremated equal."

It's hard to understand how he could have left out all this time. Mind boggling really. Hard to believe they actually have listened to jazz seeing as how McCoy Tyner and Roy Haynes were also overlooked until now. Jeez!!

I voted for the three of them.

1. Why is this particular jazz hall of fame named after Nesuhi Ertegun? Is record company sponsorship involved?

2. Someone needs to rewrite those selection criteria. Obviously the product of a committee, they're full of redundancy and far too focused on "style." And somehow they manage to omit an explicit statement that the quality of the artist's music should be the most important factor.

Yeah, Dinah was the 3rd person I voted for. She was super duper great. Her performance at Newport in Jazz on a Summer's Day years ago sold me on her just by itself.

That whole hall of fame concept is just idiotic.

Is there Jazz without Dexter?

Really...you would think he would go into the default settings when they opened the hall of fame.

Its really kind of a waste of electrons to decide if he should go in or not...weird

Anyway, I voted.
That whole hall of fame concept is just idiotic.
