Don't dryer sheets have chemicals on them -- fabric softeners, scents, etc.?I've used dryer sheets (cut into strips) from time to time and they work well.

Yup. What ever those chemicals are they've never damaged my pads. Not to mention if you use them on your clothes then they're on your body as well.Don't dryer sheets have chemicals on them -- fabric softeners, scents, etc.?
Interesting. I see some good deals at eBay on something called "microsuede". Same thing?I think it was that army sax repair guy on YouTube who said to use scraps of something called UltraSuede…

I started using these a couple years ago when I was having problems with sticky G# and the body octave key pad on my Zephyr. Now, after this thread is public, I bet we'll see something within the next 2 weeks, not to mention 3-4 Youtube videos on the subject by the usual suspects
Edit: @skeller047 posted simultaneously: They are out there!
Not sure if that’s the same thing. This is what I got, from this seller (Field’s Fabrics). It came with 6 pieces and I’ve just been using the same one piece for a year and a half. It doesn’t really wear down or anything. (They have several other color themes too if that matters to you for any reason! 😃)Interesting. Agreed, that's what I have been using, the coffee filter trick. Not only for fixing/cleaning sticky pads but I find the filter useful for absorbing the moisture off the low Eb and the closed pads in the high register after playing. The lens cleaning cloth should work fine. I've been using a Hario coffee filter paper to clean a pad if it gets sticky, or to prevent it from sticking, and it works great. Can be used over & over again. I'm not sure if the coffee filter paper is any better for this purpose than a lens cleaner, but it does have a bit of texture that might help to actually clean the pad.
A dollar bill works for a quick fix on the bandstand since you'll likely have one handy in your wallet.
Good point...but I would be more likely to use the already used sheets. Al least by then, most of whatever is in the sheet has been removed. I will give it a go...Yup. I don't think 'they' are around anymoreWhich forum is this, can't be SOTW, nobody argues![]()
I would still argue that the coffee filters are just as good, if not better. Then again, I've never tried the spit sponges. Goes back to PeterS's commentThey have.

Spit Sponge™ - Saxophone Size
Spit happens! And spitty saxophone pads become a noisy, sticky mess. Spit Sponge™ pad dryers remove moisture left on the pads and tone holes that a saxophone swab just can't clean - extending pad life and keeping the sax cleaner. That might work for smaller pads, but a lot of saxophone pads are larger than any cigarette paper. My oboe teacher, many decades ago, recommended using cigarette papers to clean spitty pads. Not sure if that would work for sticky sax pads or not. (Might just adhere to the pad and tear off.)
I've been using ultrasuede ever since I saw a YouTube video recommending it by the repairman for the Army Field band. Works like a charm and doesn't seem to wear out. You can get five small sheets on eBay for about $5 + shipping. Not sure if that’s the same thing. This is what I got, from this seller (Field’s Fabrics).
