Dryer sheets, I won't use them on my clothes, various chemicals. Dollar bill would have to be new, they get covered in bacteria.

I think it was that army sax repair guy on YouTube who said to use scraps of something called UltraSuede…

Interesting. I see some good deals at eBay on something called "microsuede". Same thing?

Now, after this thread is public, I bet we'll see something within the next 2 weeks, not to mention 3-4 Youtube videos on the subject by the usual suspects

Edit: @skeller047 posted simultaneously: They are out there!
I started using these a couple years ago when I was having problems with sticky G# and the body octave key pad on my Zephyr.
Now after swabbing out the horn I hit every pad with one of these. Sticking keys is a thing of the past.

Not sure if that’s the same thing. This is what I got, from this seller (Field’s Fabrics). It came with 6 pieces and I’ve just been using the same one piece for a year and a half. It doesn’t really wear down or anything. (They have several other color themes too if that matters to you for any reason! 😃)

I use a Spit Sponge, and it seems to work as advertised. The top part absorbs moisture from the pad, and the textured bottom part removes residue from the tone holes. I've used microsuede cloth, cleaning papers, and the now defunct PadStick, and I believe this works better. However, I also take other measures to prevent pad sticking like not eating and drinking only water while playing, cleaning the horn with a Drag 'N Swab every time, propping the G# key open when the horn is not in use, and storing the horn in a room with humidity kept at 40% or lower. Of course YMMV, but I find the Spit Sponge to be helpful along with the other measures.

Here is my reason for the lens cleaning cloth, especially on soprano:

Cosmetics Wood Sunglasses Jewellery Eyewear

Thread the cloth in and then just pull either up or down and the entire procedure takes 2-3 seconds. For the entire stack. I have always thought that frequent but gentle cleaning beats "thorough maintenance" when a problem starts to develop.

The lens cleaning cloth should work fine. I've been using a Hario coffee filter paper to clean a pad if it gets sticky, or to prevent it from sticking, and it works great. Can be used over & over again. I'm not sure if the coffee filter paper is any better for this purpose than a lens cleaner, but it does have a bit of texture that might help to actually clean the pad.

A dollar bill works for a quick fix on the bandstand since you'll likely have one handy in your wallet.
Agreed, that's what I have been using, the coffee filter trick. Not only for fixing/cleaning sticky pads but I find the filter useful for absorbing the moisture off the low Eb and the closed pads in the high register after playing.

I’ve been using paper towels folded to the width of a ruler to dab some pads while playing. I just hate pausing my practice just to dry off the pads.

They have.

I would still argue that the coffee filters are just as good, if not better. Then again, I've never tried the spit sponges. Goes back to PeterS's comment;)

I mean, that’s what BG has been using for a long time and what Key Leaves also uses but under their own brand. They’re just cut differently 🤷🏽‍♂️

I've been using ultrasuede ever since I saw a YouTube video recommending it by the repairman for the Army Field band. Works like a charm and doesn't seem to wear out. You can get five small sheets on eBay for about $5 + shipping.

Looks like we got the idea from the same video! I agree that these work very well and don’t wear at all. Actually bought rolling papers first and… boy was that a mess!
