I ran out of change but I had a sticky pad and the only thing at hand was a lens cleaning cloth like these here:

I think I am actually converted.

Has anyone else tried one of those?
I have the most difficult time keeping my glasses clean because I produce enough oil to rival Saudi.
I am going with your recommendation here.

The lens cleaning cloth should work fine. I've been using a Hario coffee filter paper to clean a pad if it gets sticky, or to prevent it from sticking, and it works great. Can be used over & over again. I'm not sure if the coffee filter paper is any better for this purpose than a lens cleaner, but it does have a bit of texture that might help to actually clean the pad.

A dollar bill works for a quick fix on the bandstand since you'll likely have one handy in your wallet.

That's the problem they keep wandering into the tip jars leaving me cashless 90% of the time. And pulling a credit card over the pad doesn't quite cut it.

A benefit of the micro- fibre lens cloth is the fact that it is smooth enough not to abraid the skin of the leather but still clean the pad of residue. And the cloth itself can be periodically cleaned with water and soap.
That's a really good point. I'm not sure the filter paper is rough enough to actually abrade the pad, but maybe over a period of time it could have an erosive effect. I think I'll go to the lens cleaner from now on (I have a few of them laying around). This just demonstrates what a great resource SOTW can be. After all these years on here, I still learn something new!

I think it was that army sax repair guy on YouTube who said to use scraps of something called UltraSuede which you can get for just a few bucks from fabric stores. That’s what I’ve been using, works well. They’re a bit thicker/stiffer than those eyeglasses microfiber cloths, so maybe easier to slip into the open key.

It’s amazing that hucksters have not come out with “premium pad cleaner” cloths yet, as another way to sell overpriced doohickeys to gullible sax players. Easy enough to buy lens cleaner cloths in bulk, relabel and repackage. What would be a good price point? Maybe $6.99? Or has this already been done, and I‘ve missed it on WWBW?

Now, after this thread is public, I bet we'll see something within the next 2 weeks, not to mention 3-4 Youtube videos on the subject by the usual suspects

Edit: @skeller047 posted simultaneously: They are out there!

I use the BG version of the spit sponge and like the idea but it needs to be stiffer so you can get it into those hard to get spots. My lens cleaners are super floppy, not any better than the polishing cloth. May try that coffee filter idea though, those are nice and stiff.
