He's easily one of the most distinctive and recognizable R&B/Rock sax players in the world. Lots of folks want to hear him, so why doesn't LP record more? Anybody know? Are there "unknown" recordings out there to look for?

Don't know if these would be unknown, but he's featured as a soloist (on alto) on one track from Jimmy Haslip's first solo project (called ARC, recorded in '93, I think). Also plays some sectional work on alto clarinet on Dave Sanborn's "Another Hand" album.

I would spend big money on CDs of him playing on SNL, if such a thing existed. I cannot possibly imagine why he would put out something like Borneo Horns instead of his SNL work. He's the reason why I started playing tenor sax, I was little and wanted to be the sax player on Saturday Night Live. I sure wish more of his music was available!

I can't be sure but he may be the third most recorded sax player out there, behind Brecker and Sanborn. Not positive about that but check out his list of credits on allmusic.com

As for his personal recordings and/or solo work. Extremeley limited. Borneo horns is definitely a passionate adventure. But check out his cuts on Dennis Chamber's album too. Make sure to sheck out the free music on his website http://lennypickettmusic.com/

I wish he would do more feature recordings as well.

Actually, I don't think Brecker and Sanborn are the most record saxophonists. Mark Douthit is up there.

Lenny was on, say, Katy Perry's last album......I'm sure he is on recordings all the time that we don't realize....

that's quite a list at allmusic... I have Lenny on an Organ player's CD, good stuff, but right now I am having a brain fail on the artist's name Tony....it's a fantastically produced CD, rich sound, geez why can't I remember his name??? I think it's in the Cd player in the car, I'll check at lunch.

he plays a lot of original, highly experimental music using quarter tones, and a lot of other unusual devices. Defintely no funk involved in this,no R&B, etc. More like modern classical. I heard him perform this several years ago, and anyone wanting to hear a SNL style Pickett would have been highly disappointed. So maybe he is just not interested in recording the type of music that most listeners want and producers are not interested in anything else.

Maybe he's just super busy?

Doesn't he teach at NYU still?

With that and SNL he probably doesn't have a whole lot of time to go around.

He was on Katy Perry's new album BTW...

I think Tom Scott is the most recorded saxophone player in the world. He has done so many projects from his own to others .

Lenny is Bad *** though. I think he is just too busy and having too much fun to worry about making and promoting a record.
