This one popped up near me, but I'm a bit cautious since I've never seen or played a P.Mauriat in person before and just making sure it's the real deal and not some fake.

I have no idea if the sax shown in the pictures is what it is claimed to be. But those are clearly stock photos - not what you would see if someone took pics in their home, at school, or in a music store. Why would anyone use stock photos?

Yeah, after I posted I noticed that too, but was so focused on details of the horn that tunnel vision didn't allow me to process that.
I'm going to ask for a photo of the serial number part.

These are supposed to be great horns, haven't tried this series, but would love to. If it turns out to be real, try to test it. Probably can be had for a good price on the used market as I've seen a couple times.

Let us know how things go!

These pictures are not the standard pics used by P.Mauriat but they are used in this ad by Quinntheeskimo (by the way he is a member here)

, however lots of people when not capable to take their own pictures, get pictures from an on line source IF the seller really exists and it is near you, you may want to go and check it out

If you're goinig to buy a P. Mauriat, make sure they have a return policy. I had one. It was not "great". Some guys like them, some do not.

Didn't realize this thread was to rag on Mauriats in the Mauriat section... Lol, I love mine and have for over 10 years, And I've tried others that I enjoyed as well, but I understand that they may not be for everyone... But as with Anything, don't buy it unless you like it - a point often overstated here.

However, the scenario appears to be here, make sure you prove it actually exists and can try it before buying :)

The System 76 Tenor 1st Edition had soft keywork, high resistance above G2 and the right hand has impossibly uncomfortable. I even tried the Second Edition. No thanks. Maybe they're better now or a different model Mauriat is better? I have read that the 67 is more likeable. It's up to the individual. No one is "ragging on" Mauriats. Any horn, any make, from a reputable dealer should have a return policy for obvious reasons. Private sales may vary.

Its more the devil in the details here - Someone is asking about whether or not a horn looked legitimate based off some stock photos, didn't really ask what we thought of Mauriats. So when you said

And I said

We both ran off topic in our interest/disinterest in the horns. Although this may be valuable info, since the OP has said he never played one, but it doesn't really address his question. Just shows our bias - hence my statement of ragging the brand, even if it is experience based, it appeared to be of malcontent, specifically toward my comment.

But yes, back on topic, return policies from stores are a must on everything (although this sounds like a private sale to me, contextually), but even then I wouldn't buy a horn without trying it - Saved me from getting a rather stuffy and not for me YTS-62III-S.

That's the only exercise I got this week - jumping to conclusions........

I play tested a P. Mauriat alto sax about 6 years ago at Dillon Music in NJ. It had all the same wonderful ability to "speak" that my Mark VI alto has, but the P. Mauriat had much better intonation, especially around D2 and E2. The only reason I did not buy it was because I was already at a point in my life where I did not really need a better alto. I bought my Mark VI new as a teenager in 1975, and I figure I'll just play it until I don't play the sax anymore.

Sorry I do not recall what model P. Mauriat alto it was, and of course individual horns do vary. I am just including this story to say it is possible for a P. Mauriat alto to be a very good horn.

I would not want to buy any horn without play testing it, or without a really good return policy.

Thank you for the various replies. No chance in hell I'm buying it without trying, I've done it on some horns, but always with some degree of confidence on what I was getting in to or without much risk (low money involved).

In this case, well, the risk is high and some red signs are blimping. The seller has read my messages, but hasn't responded, and we are currently on area lockdown until halfway through this week, so no chance on going to go see it until next weekend at least, but since the seller isn't responding, I think that's that.
