Hi all,

I've been playing Legere Signature 2.5 on my Jody Jazz JET 7 since I got it a few years ago. I've been playing intermittently over those years but have recently been practicing more regularly. The Signature 2.5 seems to work pretty well on the JET 7.

I also have a Jody Jazz DVNY 9 that I've typically used Vandoren JAVA 3 reeds on. I noticed that Legere's strength chart seen here puts a JAVA 3 at the same strength as a Baritone Signature 2.5. So I tried switching to the Legere on my DVNY 9 to test it. The Legere feels much softer than the JAVA 3; my higher notes seem to suffer with the Legere on the DVNY 9.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I use signature 2.25 on both bari (with RPC 110 and Yani Metal 8) and tenor (DVNY 7 and selmer metal C*). The bari ones may be slightly softer, but I find not all signatures of the same strength are actually exactly the same. One of my tenor 2.25s feels much harder than another. Could be for multiple potential factors or reasons, I wouldn’t know exactly why, but there seems to be some occasional (not frequent) inconsistency.

Thanks for your sharing your experience! I guess the only way I'll know moving forward is to try a few of them.

As a more general observation, yes, the strength chart is inaccurate, but it isn't Legere's fault. In particular, Legere does the "correct" thing by breaking down the strength by each "voice" (i.e., soprano, alto, tenor, baritone) on its chart, whereas the other brands don't.

I've found that the average brand-to-brand strength relationship varies by voice, especially when you move away from the most common voices (alto and tenor). So, unless Legere broke down the individual voice strengths for each reed brand the relationships among the non-Legere reeds on their chart could not be correct across all voices.

Yes.
I had this problem with Fiberreed.
The Alto and Soprano were softer than the Bari and Tenor
