I was wondering if anyone here knows if and when there will be more selection available in the Baritone reeds. Currently all I have been able to find is standard cut in Legere.
I contacted the company recently and they said that they hoped to release a "Signature" version of their bari reed sometime in 2012.

Of course, there are other opinions. I'm not overly fond of plastic reeds, but I particularly despise the Legere's. Found much better results with Fibracells on tenor and you don't have to wait. Already available. If you go that route, I suggest getting one harder than you think you need as they tend to play soft.

I've been a Fibracell player for years now and I do like them but like any other reed it has to match the mouthpiece and player. For me Fibracell don't match my Berg well. The tone is much to edgy and thin (Fibracell strength 3.5 & 4). This on a 110/1 berg. I loved Légère on my old Link but the current classic cut doesn't like my Berg very well. I hope they produce a Studio and Signature cut for all horns. It would be nice to have options.

That's a coincidence that this thread has come back to life, as it was just today that I emailed Legere about bari Signatures. Last time I emailed was in October 2010 when they said they would be working on it straight after the soprano Signature. That one has been out for quite a while, hasn't it ?

I'll be interested in the feedback. I have the standard legere bari. reed and it's OK, but definitely not going to replace the RSJ I normally use. A synthetic bari reed that plays like cane would be great.

I played my Legere Signature at big band rehearsal last night. Initial impressions were that the sound was OK but it didn't speak well.

Then I realised that the ligature was not holding the synthetic reed firmly so I swapped to a Rovner-style fabric lig which could tighten up enough.

The end result was excellent - a really good sound from top to bottom. Very similar to the Rico or Alexander DC sound that I like and significantly better that all the other synthetic reeds I have played, inlcuding Bari, Bari*, Hahn, Fibracell, Forestone, Legere standard and Hartmann.

I struck lucky with the strength as well - this Legere 2.5 is probably equivalent to between a 3 and 3.5 in Rico Royal or RJS and spot on for me.

I guess that is the end of my worries about baritone reeds and £28 well spent.
