left thumb octave button variations

Are there other button types that you've tried that are less stressful on the left thumb. My Yamaha has a plastic button that is flat, do convex bottons work better?
Any ideas, is there a source for such an item?

Take it where a tech can pop the black plastic button off and try resting your thumb on the hollow brass riser for starters. This might tell you if you're in the right direction. Lots of possibilities if so.
