Hello!

I'm totally new to the saxophone, and to this forum.

I felt that I wanted to try playing alto sax, and just bought this one for ($250 + shipping to Sweden, where I live):

Was it a good buy?

That looks to be one the the Kenosha assembled Beaugniers. My son plays one and sounds great on it. They are undervalued.

There is a Vito available to me for purchase as well. I have played it, and it plays well. How can I tell if it is one of the "good ones"?

If it plays well, that pretty much answers the question.

The Yamaha built horns say Japan by the serial number. The early Beaugniers will say Made in France by the bow to body joint and nice engraving. The ones like Roband bought usually don't have any country stamped on them.

Here http://www.doctorsax.biz/vito_ser_nos.htm is some more info.
