So I'm on a bit of a hunt for s80 mouthpieces as they seem to pair very nicely with my true-tones which led me to then discover Selmer had not too long since revamped their modern mouthpieces like the s80, s90, soloist etc.

Other than the racing stripe down the side and the letters having different tip openings, what are other factual differences and peoples own perceived differences of the latest vs older modern versions of s80, s90, soloist etc?

It’s factual that old Selmer mouthpieces were finished by hand causing them to vary a bit from one to the next. A few years ago Selmer invested in precise machine finishing that ensures a much more consistent result in their current production. They have a couple interesting YT videos showing this process.

Selmer can mass produce pieces in the 100s per day. They play ok but they are trouble if you’re going to need one adjusted.
