Very sad news. The guy was a fantastic sportsman and a really good person. I feel for his wife and kids who were not on the chopper with him. Also his old teammates like Pau Gasol and his friends. The lesson is that life can end at any time with no warning, so live your life to the fullest and enjoy every moment because in the blink of an eye you may suddenly be gone forever.

I was hoping it was a hoax when I first saw it pop up on my feed (lifelong Laker fan). His oldest daughter (Gianna) was in the chopper with him as well. They were on their way to a basketball game Gianna was going to play in.

I didn't know he played sax. Otherwise, what's the idea of posting it on here? Don't you have a general forum somewhere you can discuss non-music related subjects?
The "In Memory Of ..." subforum on SOTW is obviously an appropriate place to discuss the death of anyone significant to forum members. A huge number of non-saxophonist musicians get memorialized here, but so do plenty of non-musicians (e.g., Tim Conway, Cokie Roberts). Just look at past threads.

He was very popular here in Spain because he and Pau Gasol played on the Lakers and became great friends. His death occupied a good portion of the 9 p.m. news as the accident happened barely an hour earlier.

Kobe Bean Bryant (August 23, 1978 - January 26, 2020) was an American professional basketball player.[3] He played his entire 20-year career in the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Los Angeles Lakers. He entered the NBA directly from high school and won five NBA championships. Bryant was an 18-time All-Star, 15-time member of the All-NBA Team, 12-time member of the All-Defensive team, and the 2008 NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP). Widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time,[4][5][6][7] he led the NBA in scoring during two seasons, ranks fourth on the league's all-time regular season scoring, and ranks fourth on the all-time postseason scoring list. Bryant was the first guard in NBA history to play at least 20 seasons.

What about them? I'd say check out the numerous articles about the less famous people who died. I hope that was a non-rhetorical question, because I don't think people are saying the others were insignificant. Regarding the other sanctimonious thing at the bottom: Yes it matters what brand you play, so we can avoid whatever that is. Kidding. But, in case you hadn't noticed, part of what's discussed here is equipment. If it doesn't matter to you, leave it blank instead of implying that the mention of it by others is somehow shallow.
