Hello!

Does anyone know anything regarding Klingt Saxophones? A music store is selling me an Alto Sax model FT6430L in blue color. I know they are chinnese as many of them, but I don´t have too much money, and as a beginner, I think I may start with this kind of sax.

Don't know the brand and I doubt many would. if it plays well and pleases you why not? But why a blue saxophone? Any scratch will show like hell on it! Have you tried to look for a good playing Vito Yamaha? They are often as cheap as one of these Chinese saxophone and play better and hold their value.

If you don't have much money, I certainly wouldn't spend what I DO have on something like this. The chances are that you'll just have to buy something else once you learn the scales. You might as well just send me the money now - or toss it into the trash can.

Are there decent playing saxophones of this ilk? Yes. I once played a Chinese alto that a friend had completely overhauled when it came out of the shipping carton - and it was very nice - but his work had added about $400 to $500 in additional parts and labor to it.

Another problem is that you failed to tell us where you live and the limits of your budget. I wouldn't pay $5.00 for a Klingt-labelled saxophone . . . not when I know where I can get a good-playing inexpensive alto saxophone (both new and vintage). We could direct you better with more info. DAVE

Thanks Dave and Milandro for your replies. I currently live in Mexico. I also have seen too much in this country the Silvertone Saxophones and Mercury. But I suppose that all of them are Chinnese made. I know that they won´t last long, but, considering I´m a beginner, I wouldn´t spend too much until I get a little more of experience. My Budget for this would be no more than $400 USD

With that budget you could get an older, solidly built Bundy that plays in tune.
For DECADES the Bundy was the 'standard' beginner saxophone much like the Yamaha 23 is today.
It won't be blue though....

There are tons of other threads on SOTW where people (there was recently someone from Mexico too) look for cheap(er) saxophones and there is solid advise there. 400$ could buy you a good vintage horn (as Bandmommy suggests).

Antigua is a company which advertises here on SOTW I don't think that the sites " promotes" any brand!

Antigua is one of the better known Asian-made saxophones. A few years ago, I played a variety of inexpensive alto saxophones at Dave Kessler's store in Las Vegas, trying to find a decent inexpensive horn for one of my grandsons. Ultimately I chose one of Kessler's own-brand Kessler Custom altos (and it proved to be a good choice for him). But an Antigua I played then was a close second. If I were you, I'd see if I couldn't come up with a few hundred dollars more and make a call to Kessler. I can't speak for his business (selling/shipping to Mexico, etc.), but setting your budget a little higher will most likely end up up with you buying a much better horn - and more years of learning and playing enjoyment. Ahhh... NOPE! I think that guy is Col. KlinK.
I guess if you were 'punished' by him you may have been 'Klingt'. :)
