It is very pretty and clean but I'm surprised it doesn't have the engraving on the bell keys like my old one did - figured they would've done this on all the Specials. However, this is a later serial number #266XXX while mine was #209XXX so maybe they dropped it close to the release of the Super 20's.

Yes, and very special it is.

With all the trimmings and silver neck.

Looks very nice. The price may be appropriate due to its rarity.
Hi Milandro, Thanks for the note. The pearls etc make it look unmistakably like a Zephyr Special. The part I can't figure out is the engraving. It doesn't look like the typical zephyr stuff. its on the side of the bell and is just different and less ornate. Do you have any insight on that?

I think the engraving makes it look not very different from what the Super 20 engraving looks like and anyway this is probably a custom finished horns (as the trimmings show).

Whether that grants the money or not if for you to decide.

This does look odd. At the very least the lacquer doesn't look like original King lacquer of that era. Browsing through the saxpics gallery http://saxpics.com/?v=gal&c=2054 there do appear to be other ZS from late in the run that don't have the full key engravings.

Mine is a few years older with all the engraving and much darker original lacquer. The ebay horn appears to be a wartime horn and right at the end of the Zephyr Special run. I think it is legit but overpriced. I paid less than half of that for mine here at SOTW.
