In the last two years I have returned to playing as a doubler after many years, many...not playing at all. I spent the first year playing flute every day and taking lessons as it is the deal killer for me. I have a very nice Myizawa flute and I was able to get to the point where I was able to get a show here in Missoula, Montana. I first tried Kessler when I bought one of their piccolo’s. It is terrific for me, makes a very respectable sound and is in tune. I play bassoon acceptably and wanted to try oboe. I know I probably need a $5k oboe, but have had the same good experience with the base line Kessler I had with the piccolo. On saxophone a good mouthpiece can make a big difference. Reeds seem to be the same with oboe. I can’t vouch for pitch as I am not that far along, but I can keep the instrument in tune. I am lucky to live in a community With a good theater, and look forward to in person performance again soon. Thanks to the people at Kessler for making the doubles affordable and available.
