Can I ask what is the " problem" that you are trying to fix? Which version of the ST have you got?
No problems at all.
I have the ST90 Series III.
An opportunity has come up to buy a SX90 neck at a good price.
The seller however is not near by, so I won't have to chance to try it first.
The horn plays very well with its own neck, but I am by nature curious as to whether it might work.

If I were you I’d buy it and try although if there is no problem to be fixed you are more likely to induce a problem than to improve anything.

Should you not be interested in this neck I may be.

The diameter of the ST III ( which is really made by Amati) is?

I'll measure it tomorrow.
The horn is at work and I'm home now.
This is a surprisingly good horn in its own right.
Outplays any of Yamahas student offerings and many other of their intermediate/pro horns.

There is nothing wrong with a horn made by Amati, they have long relationship with Keilwerth ( one may say they were fashioned from an historical Keilwerth’s rib).

The ST was simply a less sophisticated horn but the distinction is purely formal. It works.

The brand appreciation is a different matter altogether.

I've never played the SX90 models, but if they sound better than the ST90 models, they must be a wonderful horn.
I've played the ST90 and own a SX90 alto, a SX90R tenor and a SX90II soprano. And yes: SX90(R) plays a lot better than the ST90 :)

Not very fair to compare an ST to an SX, really. ST's were always outsourced and their market was always the budget end of things.

But I agree, it's a far better instrument than any YAS 23...

Keith Ridenhour actually bought a replacement JK neck for his neckless ST90 a while back. I believe that one was an SX neck, and it worked fine on the ST90 (I serviced the horn).

Thanks, this is good to know.
