I knew Weiner Music in NY bought a bunch of new old stock Brilhart mouthpieces. Looks like Brook Mays might have done the same. Strange that there is almost no mention of the end of production of Brilhart pieces.

I have a brand new (old stock) tenor Ebolin and an old one and they play about the same to me.

Does anyone even know when the Brilharts were shut down? I think by now Weiner just has a few oddball facings left in stock.

I bought it from a reputable player, sounds and plays great but it seems to be a short facing and one should learn how to play those things.
I've got one very similar, plays great. I don't know if the facing is particularly short, but I do notice the beak angle is steeper than my Meyer and Otto Link pieces. It takes me about 5 minutes to get accustomed to it when I first start playing.

I noticed that too, but I don't find it uncomfortable. For some reason it allows me to relax my embouchure which for me on tenor is always a good thing. I can't wait to try this out. I debated buying the last one in stock in case through the luck of the draw I get a lemon. I decided with everything else going on not to. I can always find someone to correct the facing if it is too wonky.

I don't really like short or medium short facing mouthpieces. For me at least they are a lot more work. Since I don't spend a lot of time shredding altissimo I prefer a piece that slightly favors the lower register or at least is balanced. I just purchased a Brilhart Special Ebolin (see this thread) and it is now my main piece except when I'm playing classical. I really wish I knew how much Brilharts were going to agree with me 10-20 years ago when you could get them for a song, but I guess it's better late than never.

BTW, in high school back in the 70s my band director was always telling me I should try a Brilhart. I should have listened to him God rest his soul.

I think I just bought the last one! :) Thanks for the heads up, at that price I couldn't pass it up. I need something to motivate me to play my tenor more often. Otherwise, I've been thinking of selling it.

Congrats! Let me know what you think when you get it. I didn't pay for expedited shipping so it'll probably be a week before I have it.

The short facings are the ones with the star. The regular are without it.

Walmart???? You mean the actual WalMart owned by Sam Wall? Geez, I had no idea that anyone at Walmart even knew what a saxophone is, let alone any of their customers. Man, things sure do get stranger and stranger every year. Who's next, Home Depot and Panera Bread?

It appears that they are just acting as a pass-through for Brook Mays.

That's something new to me. I didn't know that Walmart was using the Amazon strategy of selling for other purveyors. What's next, Alibaba?

Well, here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking that I might not get this mouthpiece. I'm thinking, they may not have any left at this point. I'm thinking that's why they shipped me a Selmer Goldentone instead. I was all excited when I found a package in my mailbox this afternoon, wow, what a quick delivery! And low and behold, it's the wrong piece. Well, we'll see where this leads to. Let me know how you make out.

Oh crap. That's disappointing. The same thing happened to me with an eBay seller and I returned the mouthpiece for a refund. What's with this for substituting a Goldentone for an Ebolin. Arrrrrgh.

Man, that sucks. No excuse for that at all without having asked you first if you wanted it. A terrible business practice for sure.
