I bought a JAF-1121ES alto flute around 2002 (with both straight and curved silver plated heads) and comments from others who've tried it (and who are far better flautists than myself - a part-time flute player) have been great considering mine is the entry level DiMedici alto flute. Your 1217ES will have a solid silver headjoint.

Compared to the old Italian, East German and Parrot alto flutes of the past which were pretty cumbersome beasts for those wanting an affordable alto flute, these are much easier and comfortable to handle and are based on the more modern Japanese altos and have a split E mechanism as standard. I think they were the first to introduce a decent alto flute at a competitive price back then, although things have moved on since 2002 and there are a lot of cheaper alto flutes coming in from China based on the more modern Japanese designs. But the Jupiter still holds its ground in between them and the more expensive Japanese makes.

I think you will be pleased with it from the moment you unpack it.

Does anybody?

In the last two years, I've bought a number of instruments, all from different merchants, and the only thing I've ever gotten was the tracking information from UPS or FedEx, but never a direct communication from the merchant that the item had shipped.

I just took a peek at the KesslerMusic.com site - it seems there are a few shop demos deeply discounted. Very tempting. I miss my Pearl alto flute.

Bad timing for me, I don't have the funds right now, even for a demo.

I'm really itching for an alto flute. Sometimes I think I should sell my Mark VI soprano, which I hardly play, so I could get one and upgrade my C flute as well.
