Sounds wrong to me. The EX should be on the serial number as far as I know. My soprano says YSS-875EX with the serial number below that. It sounds like you got an old 875 but I'm not sure how the serial number could be matching.
Yeah thought so...but surprisingly on the original yamah box that came with it, it is printed ... yts-875ex #xxxxxx and this serial number matched the one engraved on the back of the horn. What should I do? It is still a beautiful horn but I paid alot for it thinking it is an ex.patseguin said:Sounds wrong to me. The EX should be on the serial number as far as I know. How do I contact them they got no numbers on their websiteCanadiain said:Would Yamaha customer service be able to tell you from the serial number?
It seems you are right there steve, it says yts 875-2 on one of the label but why it says yts-875 ex on the other label???Steve P said:If it says EX on the bell, its an EX. To me, it sounds like you have an 875II; they did a slight change to the alto tenor and soprano when they introduced the EX alto, but labeled them as 875II's.

It sounds like you have the 875ex, just labeled differently.mjs10 said:It seems you are right there steve, it says yts 875-2 on one of the label but why it says yts-875 ex on the other label???
ANd whats this yts 875-2? Is it the same thing? or whats the difference?
This thread has a guy who contacted yamaha with a similar query - perhaps a P.M. to him might get you the email address...mjs10 said:How do I contact them they got no numbers on their website
Wow a little jab at us yanks huh? Most of us are actually really smart I'm not sure who you are meeting. By the way we have 50 states to memorize so thats like knowing Europe right there!!!DougR said:Be aware that yamaha has multiple websites for different geographies, and that ,sometimes, the model name changes from country to country for exactly the same horn - and that any serial number records held by yamaha USA will not include the serial numbers for horns originally sold on some other continent, nor for horns whic are "grey imports".
Be aware the the americans are notoriously dim on matters geographical.
Can be a help to edit your profile to include (at least) the country.
The problem is what I wanted is an ex because it has a bigger sound and plus I can get regular 875 cheaper here. Someone is selling for $2400. So thats my problem.CountSpatula said:Hell if you like the horn so much what's the problem...
