Just got my new YTS 875ex today...but...

Okay, i bought it from someone who owned this horn since last year. On the original box that came with it, it has a printed label says YTS 875ex #xxxxxx

But

On the back of the horn, the serial number matches the one printed on the box but it only says YTS 875

Also, the neck is a G1 neck, it is not a G3 neck as described on yamaha.com

Is there something wrong here?

Sounds wrong to me. The EX should be on the serial number as far as I know. My soprano says YSS-875EX with the serial number below that. It sounds like you got an old 875 but I'm not sure how the serial number could be matching.

Yeah thought so...but surprisingly on the original yamah box that came with it, it is printed ... yts-875ex #xxxxxx and this serial number matched the one engraved on the back of the horn. What should I do? It is still a beautiful horn but I paid alot for it thinking it is an ex.
That's kind of weird. I went to my local shop and said I wanted a EX soprano and they brought one out and I took a look. It only said 875 on it and I insisted it was not an EX. So, I special ordered one from the factory and the serial number has EX as well as the engraving. Does your engraving say EX on it? The EX's are new so you should definitely have the new neck. If I'm not mistaken there were intonation problems with the G1.
recently I played a YTS-875EX and it had the EX engraving on the bell.
Would Yamaha customer service be able to tell you from the serial number?
If it says EX on the bell, its an EX. To me, it sounds like you have an 875II; they did a slight change to the alto tenor and soprano when they introduced the EX alto, but labeled them as 875II's.

no theres no EX engraved on the bell. Is it possible that this was an early model of ex? I mean how the hell it prints yts 875ex on the label stickied to the box??? And its a computer generated label, original yamaha label. What should I do now?
The horn is nonetheless a beautiful looking dent free, marks free, scratch free horn, plays absoulutely gorgeous with no leaks and intonation and projection are superbs. But I am just disapointed as I want an ex plus I paid a bit more as I am expecting an ex.

How much is 875 tenor worth and how much is 875 ex worth? I paid US$2500 for it

How do I contact them they got no numbers on their website
Be aware that yamaha has multiple websites for different geographies, and that ,sometimes, the model name changes from country to country for exactly the same horn - and that any serial number records held by yamaha USA will not include the serial numbers for horns originally sold on some other continent, nor for horns whic are "grey imports".

Be aware the the americans are notoriously dim on matters geographical.

Can be a help to edit your profile to include (at least) the country.
I bought this sax from USA, Tellahassee.

Ok there are 2 computer generated labels on the original box of the horn here;s what they say:

YTS 875EX #150952
Yamaha New YTS-875 tenor sax

There is another label printed as:

YTS875-2
Bar code Barcode
4957812062268 150952
2 NEW AAC3217 AAA0

The serial number matches my horn (engraved at the back)

I am sooo confused!!

It seems you are right there steve, it says yts 875-2 on one of the label but why it says yts-875 ex on the other label???

ANd whats this yts 875-2? Is it the same thing? or whats the difference?

It sounds like you have the 875ex, just labeled differently.

This thread has a guy who contacted yamaha with a similar query - perhaps a P.M. to him might get you the email address...
Thanks guys I found yamaha email, i have sent an email and see what they say...

saxyman: hope so mate, it doesnt say ex on the bell tho...
msj-

I am sorry to say that if it does not say EX on the bell, it is not an EX.

The 875-2 is a slightly modified version of the 875. They changed the octave mechanism, some ribbing. Nothing too major. Its still a fantastic horn.

Hell if you like the horn so much what's the problem...

Wow a little jab at us yanks huh? Most of us are actually really smart I'm not sure who you are meeting. By the way we have 50 states to memorize so thats like knowing Europe right there!!!
Sounds like you got a nice sax for your $2,500. Enjoy it! I wouldn't be worried because it sounds like you got a pre EX EX......;)

The problem is what I wanted is an ex because it has a bigger sound and plus I can get regular 875 cheaper here. Someone is selling for $2400. So thats my problem.

And plus i want to know the truth about the label on the box. is that wrong?

Hell I hate people with cynical post.
