Oh Boy! Am I excited! Noticed it on Craigslist the other AM. 1924 Buescher C Mel. Gold Plated. Used to belong to a man called Miro. He had a band in Toronto during the 40s and 50s called "The Miro Band". Anybody remember? It hasn't arrived yet. This will be my 4th C Mel. I'm still working on refit of Pan Am. The Holton is working OK but my silver Buescher really is starting to sing. I've heard that the gold doesn't really change the sound, but it sure looks good! We'll see. I really dig the "prestigious looking" original case too, a rich reddish colored exterior. The sax is supposed to need new pads. I'm paying $350. Should be a good deal. My long suffering wife, bless her, said "Merry Christmas".

They sell these dimpleless Golf Plated Bueschers but you can't hit them as far.

Good luck with that one. I had a late '20s gold plated Buescher that was quite a good C-mel. You got a good price. However, a full repad can be expensive. Maybe it only needs a few pads.

I am sure that this new Buescher will suit you "to a tee." :^)
Buescher C tenors are somewhat reserved and mellow in their tone quality, but they do play well in all registers and play well in tune with themselves. Since you seem to be on C tenor kick, keep an eye open for a Martin. The Martins and Conns (of which your Pan Am is a Conn) respond well to modern, open metal mouthpieces with big tips and baffles. I have a friend who plays a straight-neck Conn using a metal Berg 6 tenor mpc and it has a strong tenor vibe.
You have a Buescher, a Conn (Pan Am), and a Holton; what is your fourth C tenor?

Actually, the white dimples create an acoustic baffling phenomena which directs the sound in all directions at once, thereby "fattening" the tone into a luxurious full bodied golden timbre as it emanates from the gold plate. Various sax manufacturers experimented with this technique but, despite the acoustic benefits, found it was too expensive. Very few examples exist today since the tiny dimples simply disappeared from 85 years of polishing.
