I have a Jupiter 767 alto (circa '89 from the serial no.) on its way to me and I'm interested to know if the Jupiter mouthpiece with it will be a good choice to stick with?

Or, would I be better off buying something like a Yamaha 4c or something else to give me the best start?

I would imagine that if the original Jupiter piece is in good shape (no chips, etc...) then it should be fine. Having said that, a Yamaha 4C is a fantastic beginner piece and really affordable. I'd probably go with the Yamaha.

Jupiter pieces are, I think, made in Germany by EMS ( they are often marked " made in Germany")

Jupiter has many ties with German companies and the German market, so it is not strange that they source mouthpieces there

My Jupiter 769 comes with a 4C mouthpiece marked " Jupiter 4C, made in Germany".... !
They are certainly made well and certainly not better or worse than an equally well made Yamaha

Sounds pretty promising. So it might be worth my while to try out the Jupiter and see how it goes. If I don't get on with it, I can always go for a Yamaha or something else.

this sis in any case the best and most economic way to deal with this.

Frankly speaking I don’t think that there is such a great difference between a Jupiet and a Yamaha mouthpiece , you are a beginner, I understand, and there will be plenty to learn before you would run into any mouthpiece shortcomings, I know of people who have played such mouthpieces for years and years

OK, that's good to hear. I was just concerned that the jupe mouthpiece might have a bad reputation or something and didn't want to handicap myself any further than I already will be!

I've been playing for a couple of hours a day for about 3 months on a Roland GO aerophone. Which has at least shown me that I may have the enthusiasm and discipline to keep at the real sax when it shows up. Hopefully its helped elsewhere too, but I felt the synth was not going to enable me to learn certain things and as the aim was always to end up playing the real thing, it was time to take the plunge!

The GO will still be very useful in the future though in certain scenarios, so I'll probably keep it.
