Ever since my great success with my A45 on alto, I bought a T95 and got it in yesterday. All I can say is, WOW. For a mass produced mouthpiece, what a player! I can go from very mellow to bright and powerful for my funk and rock gigs. Anyone else have a JJ as their preferred tenor piece? I use it with the Optimum ligature and Java Red's #3 right now.

i've had several over the years, had a love hate relationship.. started with a T45, T75, then two T95, which I now wish I had never sold (even though I made a profit oddly enough). gotta say I learned my lesson and am keeping all my mouthpieces....lol

I had a Blue JJ T95, coupled with a 2.5 or 3 Plasticover it was great. I think my biggest issue with them was the large bite, I had been using a Runyon Quantum which is a very slim profile and it was quite a change. I stuck with it a long while, then started looking for a bit darker, mellower sound. I should have just changed reeds...;-)

Yeah, believe me I have a box full of mouthpieces and probably won't sell any except for the ones I hate. I'm, coming from using a PMS Guardala Studio for a while now and the JJ works so weel for me on alto that I had to try it on tenor after hearing a friend play one.

I played one for a little while.

After I sold my JJ DV I needed something for the loud raucous sound.

I really liked the Jumbo at first and then something just didn't jive with me... so I started using a Link

Maybe I realized that there were always Mics at my gigs and I didn't need a loud specific mouthpiece I just needed a good all around Mouthpiece.

I play the A55 but never took to the JJ on Tenor. Overall I think most Vandoren mouthpieces are very very good though.

The piece is working out really well. Such a nice sound top to bottom. Very similar to my Saxscape Downtown Studio.

Hey guys ... new to this site and wished I had joined at years ago ... played tenor (selmer VI) all my life and my alto is a 1926 Buescher .. as you all know ..lovely horns ...just came back "on the scene" a year ago and a few weeks ago played my first rock/oldies/ job (I hate the word "gig"). I now realize that my hard rubber Meyer 6M on my tenor is no longer making the cut although it was a "safe" mouthpiece to come back on ... just a week ago I found my old metal Wolfe Tayne 7 .. put on a #3 royal and the horn came back alive ...
However, I know technology and "things" (including my age) have changed so I am looking for a mp that will hit the altissimo everytime with a great sound ...been tossing around the JJ 75/95 or a Link 7 or 8 ... seems as if there may be a split decision on these mouthpieces?

I'm just starting to play some tenor, I picked up a JJ and it is incredible. It's so loud and so flexible, I love it. What ligature should I get for it if I'm playing V16 3's?

Ive had a bunch of jumbos and i agree they are really great mouthpieces . I still keep an old blue t45 that is fantastic tenor piece as well as an a45 for alto .Not currently playing these but sometimes I like to go back to them and mess with them. I always keep the blue jumbo tenor in my case because that one will play with practically any reed I slap on.they are powerful pieces but with practice people can really control them and get any kind of sound out of them.

I have played Jumbo Java on Alto and Tenor for years.
I recently switched it out for a Vintage HR Otto Link (the new one) for one reason, more control. I felt like I never learned enough about this. it's not that I won't return to a JJ on Tenor as I love the range (expression, volumne, effects) it gives me, but I want to spend a little time on an Otto link HR. I did try Otto Metal, but just never felt it was for me.

For Alto, I don't think I will ever leave JJ. it just give me great control on the lower end of an alto. I rarely go over E3 on alto. (Not the best control in the upper range, fight the urge to go sharpe)

So to experience power, I would suggest JJ to any player. Just remember it's called music, and it's your job to play musical. Just cause your parents give you the keys to the car, donesn't mean you drive it off a cliff. Repect the power.
