Yesterday night I went to see at the Bimhuis in Amsterdam tenor and soprano player Joshua Redman pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland (James Farm). I was there with the very nice SOTW member Edwin from Sidney Australia whom I had met for the occasion just few hours before.

When one goes to listen to a saxophone player and his band one generally expects to have a soloist with a group which supports him and very pleasantly, this wasn't the case with James Farm. This is a group which has managed to make music where all the components of the band are equally important in creating a musical blend of exceptionally refined quality.

Redman's playing is inextricably intertwined with the paying of the other excellent musicians. Their music is refined, intellectually stimulating and never obvious or predictable. I strongly recommend the album (which was I generous gift that I received from Edwin!).
