This is so sad. Such a wonderful gift of turning a phrase and a melody with a simplicity that went to one’s heart honestly, bare and tenderly at the same time. Always so humble and about as surprised and tickled as anybody that he got to play his songs on stage for money. Rest In Peace with that vodka and ginger ale and a nine mile cigarette.

John will be missed. He was always a favorite of mine, since I discovered him in '73, during my last year in the Army. I always played half a dozen songs of his, when I performed on the streets, and lots of people stopped and listened......not because of me, but because of his songs. He did pretty good, for a mailman from Chicago. RIP, John.

I, too, connected with John Prine - especially during my years in the submarine service. I played and sang many of his tunes from the Mediterranean to the Pacific, in barracks, coffee houses, wine shops, and several hundred feet below the surface of the ocean.

"Please Don't Bury Me" is this morning's mind worm. For those of you yet unfamiliar with him:
