Hey anybody here know what John Park played on? He was lead alto for Kenton. I'm guessing a Meyer but I could be wrong.

i don't know what piece he played but i do know that his sound is one of the most beautiful sounds ever produced on alto saxophone.

I seem to remember hearing he played a Meyer but a very open one - like a ten.

I know when he first joined the band he was playing on a rubber Berg (85 I think). This was what he was playing on the Birthday in Britain recording. By the time of the Richter Scale record he had switched to a Meyer (an 8 I believe). He was sometimes using tenor reeds on his alto mouthpiece as well. He considered himself a tenor player drafted into playing alto.

JcStup—I had a masterclass with John for a week in 1972 during one of the Kenton clinics. He was pushing a NY Meyer 7M at the time. I replicated his rig and it's been my go to ever since for big band/jazz.
