buy this little bit of software called 'amazing slow downer'- http://www.ronimusic.com/ . It does exactly what it says on the tin and also transposes up or down by semitones. So put in the tenor cd and transpose 5 semitones up - away you go playing alto from the same written staff.
It does this from cd's and also from songs on file, for instance in windows media player.
Its absolutely great for transcribing tunes.
