Joe Houston's ultimate goal, in recovering from a severe stroke, is to rejoin The Oozie Blues Show, an all-star gathering of musicians who have played with many of modern music's greatest artists.

Current members of the group include:

Elliott Chavers, Saxophonist, Jazz and Blues Vocalist, has enjoyed a career spanning 4 decades, whose charts hits have included "Butter Beans", "Fool Fool Fool", "Rock My Soul".

Elliott began his career in Waco Texas, and by fourteen, was playing in nightclubs. After attending college in Austin Texas, Elliott moved to Los Angeles, playing all styles from Jazz to Country to Western.

He went on to perform with Sam Cooke, Clyde McPhatter, Lloyd Price, Jimmy McGriff, Roy Milton, Percy Mayfield, Jimmy Reed, The Heartbeats (including the hit record "Daddy's Home"), and many others, while producing over 100 records under his name.

He is a member of The Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame.

Terry DeRouen : has recorded and performed with many blues greats, including Big Joe Turner, Pee Wee Creighton, Big Mama Thorton, George Smith, Hollywood Fats, Papa John Creech, Percy Mayfield, Lowell Fulsom, and was Guitar's Shorty's bandleader and second guitar for seven years. He also has backed famous vocal groups, including: The Drifters, The Coasters, and The Shirelles.

Steve "Guitar" Guillory has toured with Barry White, James Brown, and Mighty Mo Rogers,and recorded with Ray Charles and Barry White among others. He was a founding member of The Debonairs in the 60's and The Mod Squad in the 70's.

Delacy White was a member of Barry White's Band for over twelve years.

Norman Pingrey served his apprenticeship in the blues in the Bay Area Blues Scene. He worked primarily for three bandleaders during this period; T.W. Henderson, Guitar Gypsy, and Deacon Jones (John Lee Hooker's organist and bandleader), and cites John Lee Hooker as his greatest influence. He has toured with T.W. Henderson and Big Time featuring guest vocalist Archie Lee Hooker (John's nephew). Norm and his wife Josie manage The Oozie Blues Show. They are recipients of "The Blues Crusade Award" from Real Blues Magazine.

Thanks for posting this. I won't be in the area, but it's great news about Joe. I've received a couple of nice emails from Josie about Joe's condition in response to my email to Joe. Just a reminder to everyone else - Joe Houston can really use some nice words from us - it'll take you just a few minutes to send him an email and make his day!

Hey Neil, great stuff. Thanks for sending it. One correction, though. Those clubs aren't in the Bay Area. They are in Southern California. I wish they were in the Bay Area; I'd check 'em out.
