Just picked up one of these and curious on a rough second hand value of it?

Plays great, pads are great and the overall condition of the saxophone really is like new just with a few scratches here and there.

Thanks in advance

Fantastic horns...expensive horns.

In good shape market value around $3200....
+1

I'll defer to JayeLID who has the expertise regarding the price, but I agree that these are great horns. In addition, it looks like this is one from the mid-to-late 90s, which I personally prefer over the later versions.

I think Jaye could get $3200, be hard for average joe to get that. Plus with Ebay & Reverb collecting taxes for every state now, the market has shrunk. Where i live sales tax is 10%, adding $320 to the cost your horn for the buyer.....I bought a serial # 98xxx, a 1992 Keilwerth SX 90 in pretty darn good condition, a few more spots than yours, for $1700. I got it off Ebay about 9 months ago......SX90's are cheaper than the SX90R.....

It varies greatly, depending on condition and whether it has a professional overhaul.

My repair/dealer friend recently sold my SX90R alto which he had repadded with kangaroo pads. Near perfect condition and a great player. We were asking $3900. Not sure exactly what we got for it, but it would have been in the $3k+ range.

The tenor mate is still there, also with Roo pads and ready to play.

Another SX90R? Market value is likely what you paid for it, no?

Figure $2,500 tops if not playing perfectly and not cosmetically perfect. I sold one here last year for nearly that much.

I sold another one in mint, as-new condition in original case for $3,200 just a short time ago. It was listed here for over a month and garnered zero interest.

Last time I checked Reverb there was a nearly new one at a dealer for $2,995 OBO. I watched it for a month or so. I won’t be listing another one until that’s gone.

You would be correct to assume that (and I would also think that too) but based on the prices online and also the rough valuation of the instrument in this thread, I have paid around 40% of that. So one questions if that really is the true value or to the right people its worth considerably more.

Just picked up my dream serial keilwerth 94xxx. I believe the market on these Keilwerth's is around mid 3k's US
I've owned 3 previous sx90rs. 102k 95k 96k. They all sold low 3k to 3750. I sold my 96xxx for $3750 US sep2020 as a reference.

It took me 20 years to find a 94k, im not even kidding. I was happy to pay 4k. Obviously over market value but when you want something bad who cares... hahaha.

They don’t seem to have the same following in the UK as the US and are under appreciated here I think. I tried selling one, made in the first year of production, so real rolled tone holes, for £1200 and got little interest. It needed work, I had a quote for £300, and wasn’t in the same cosmetic condition as yours but it would have sold in the US and I still think was a bargain. There’s one for sale at Headwind in Bristol for £1800, again not in the same cosmetic shape as yours but fully serviced so you could use that as a base. I would guess up to £2400 would be reasonable as long as it’s properly set up. Congratulations, great horns.

They're underappreciated here in the US as well. Took me 6 months to sell my very nice 90R back in 2016 for $2800.

The like new one that I sold for only $3,200 just over 6 months ago is back in my hands. Parents said their kid loved it then abruptly had zero interest in playing anymore. So I took it back for what they paid less a small “rental fee.” I can sell it again for about the same price.

They’re probably out pony shopping now.

Why would you prefer a 94xxx serial over a 109xxx or 119xxx?
I heard that it was around 124xxx when they moved production from Nauheim to Markneuenkirchen and fired all the old staff. Given that the old Nauheim staff anticipated that you might assume that quality dipped at for example 122xxx and took some time to recover. But otherwise? Hunting a 5 digit serial - where did I hear this before?

I sold my SX90r black nickel tenor, 108xxx for $2100 a couple of months ago. They're ok horns, too heavy and cumbersome for me, tbh, although Ernie Watts has no trouble in getting around on his KeilWERTH. I play a King Super 20 tenor/alto, I have for several years now, they are Super Light horn's and are just as fast to get around on as a Mark VI, the best horn on the planet,o_O Super 20's are #2:oops:...Plus the sound on the King's play just as big as the KeilWERTH, and they have more resonance.

The KeilWERTH was killing my neck, giving me a sore neck after an hour or so of playing on it. With the Kings I can play on them all day long with no sore neck problems at all. Will I ever get another KeilWERTH to play on??:cautious:..No, those days are long gone!:D
