I seem to be one the the few sax players on this sight who favors classical music over jazz

Count me firmly in the "both" camp. I have such a connection to both that I almost resent being asked to choose. Oddly enough with a screen name like CooolJazzz, many people are surprised that so many of my youtube recordings are of a classical nature. I'm not as big on the classical literature written specifically for saxophone. In fact, most of that stuff I don't really care for...but I definitely dig Bach, Mozart, and all the great classical composers who had never even heard of a saxophone. I think Bach would have really dug the saxophone too.

There are other genres as well you know. I mean, it seems odd to run a poll that is just these two styles as if there is a competition between them.

That doesn't really make it any easier to answer. It might be easier to answer "which one are you in the mood for right this minute?". Of course you could always force the issue by asking "if you had to choose one or the other to live without, which one would you give up?"...but I wouldn't want to live in a world where I had to make that choice. Even with something you absolutely love, life would get boring really quick if that's all you had.

For listening, predominately classical with a generous portion of jazz. For playing saxophone, predominately jazz with a respectable portion of classical.

I too REALLY like both... I was classically trained, but play more Jazz...

There is a time and a place for both kinds...

and not just County AND Western... LOL

My favorite is "jazz" with a very heavy emhpasis on extemporaneous composition and a strong influence from classical.
