Jazz is a color? Kind of Blue perhaps?

Maybe it was once. Now it is a palette, a paintbox, a spectrum of tone hues and aural values.

well, there are many threads , some currently active, asking what's jazz and in the end nobody knows ........anymore.

If once there was a definition nowadays there is nothing as such. If I then see that the North Sea Jazz festival in Holland invited Prince to be one of the main acts and the tropical version on Curacao of the same festival invited José Luis Guerra ............. the I wonder if there is still any colour or if it's only a blur.

Maybe the question should be what jazz is not. That's a fair criticism.

But when Joel says jazz is a color, he could be understood as going much further - that there is only one jazz.

I personally would rather have too big a tent than too small. Excluding out-and-out commercialism of the big festival kind of course. That's always got more to do with $$$ or €€€ than anything else.

Trying to re-rail things - it was a great gig last night. He's doing a masterclass this morning too.

Ok what colour did he say jazz is ? im all ears.
He didnt say that. It's what I came away from the gig thinking. He plays with such melodic easy style that I felt like it was creating a new aural colour. I really enjoyed his show and the master class he put on today was also very good. I really did not want this thread to turn into one of "those" threads but it has...

He's a great player and a good guy and I'm glad he came to Australia.

It's this kind of posts that should be banned on here. MODS?

jazz is clearly an AFRICAN elephant.

Man, when will you ever stop?
But the grey colour of the elephant symbolizes the way jazz is hard to define, while his trunk symbolizes it's diversity and loudness, his feet represent the fact that is so hard to learn it can trample you, his size is a symbol for jazz it's international appeal while the famous memory of the elephant is a perfect symbol for its long history.

This is all a joke of course but I just wanted to state that the "jazz is a colour" thing is just as ridiculous. Lighten up a little I'm not making fun of you as a person
