"Jazz Conception for Saxophone", by Lennie Niehaus is another great book for learning how to read charts in a big band setting. (the othe book I like is "Key Jazz Rhythms", by Lipsius). The Niehaus book is easier and the exercises and studies consists of well crafted solos, whereas the Lipsius book is made up of composed tunes. Both are great , but if I had it to do over I would have started with the Niehaus book.
