The guys that know won’t tell you because they don’t want to give the counterfeiters a punchlist of how to make a better fake. Check out the other thread about fake Yanis and private message one of the guys who know their stuff.

Maybe you think counterfeiters are too dumb to read a public forum or something.
Please name one.

Seriously though, you really think they care enough about perfecting fakes? If they took all the advise here on how to make a better fake, it would cost too much to be profitable for them.

Bottom line we need to protect our own here, and educating people on how to spot fakes is a public service. This is not aiding and abetting fraud.

Totally fake!!!! Among other things Yanagisawa doesn't include S,A,T, B in front of the series. That's only for selling purposes as a guide, so for example a soprano s992 would read only 992. An other detail only in a few older examples you can find a "Japan" under the serial number, never "made in Japan". They only put Japan under the brand logo on the bell. The ending 2 series is bronze, no brass. Those blue-ish pearls???The quality of the "stamp" on the series?? I won't give all the important details because again let the counterfeiters try their best. Generally Yanis have an excellent finish, I highly doubt even knowing the details someone else will manage to make it exact.

There ya go.

Just this morning I saw photos of an "improved" counterfeit Yanagisawa.
Yes, a counterfeit with several "improvements" that I had not seen before.
Not very expensive improvements, but they removed at least one of the more obvious faults.

Did they figure it out on their own?
Did somebody coach them on how to improve them?
Did they read an online forum describing the errors?

By the way, the OP joined in June 2020 and this is their only post.
Draw your own conclusions.

For the benefit of the OP and any other newbies who may be reading, I'll repeat some simple advice for avoiding fakes that I gave in the other thread:

Never buy any name-brand instrument from DHgate.com or any similar retailer out of China.

Never buy any new instrument for a price that's one-tenth or one-twentieth of the retail price at known authorized dealers.

And you believe they came here to learn how, rather than simply looking at an original?
Exactly!!! I believe the best help to spot counterfeiting should come from here. After all this is a saxophone forum. If they could copy to perfection a Yani, Selmer, ... or any other horn how much profit would they really make selling them at that price (Like it was said before)???

Maybe. I would prefer to remove the possibility. That would be responsible behaviour.

I also lock the doors when I leave home. Even though I have not had a breakin. I think they are related.

Last post for me in this thread. I have said my piece.

Cheers,

The bronze body is really easy to spot.
I’m sure the counterfeiters are aware of differences in their saxophone and the genuine product. It would just cost them too much to replicate every detail and then their production costs would be too expensive to be able to maintain a cheap product.

Seen many of these. I wonder why the producer puts an obvious fake serial on the sax and not one within the real Yani range.
Because the counterfeiter is not concerned with authenticity. They know they're not going to fool anyone with an abundance of knowledge concerning saxophones. I think Lostconn is right, never buy Chinese and if the deal is too good to be true it probably isn't ...

Wow this is an old thread! Anyways. In that case the Color itself is a giveaway! 1 at the end of the series is lacquer brass. Yani doesn’t use that finish. The S991 under the bell logo is not a problem. They don’t put it with s,t,a,b at the back under the serial number.
