Was it a special order of some sort? A dealer would have them in stock, such as a car dealer's lot :)

I had ordered a new instrument from Selmer Paris and I was wondering if production might have been halted.
The factory has announced being closed due to the Corona Virus

" Dear All,

The coronavirus epidemic is spreading more and more in France. Its significant spread has triggered strict government measures such as general containment.

In order to protect our staff and our customers, the decision is taken to close our Paris headquarters and showroom from March 17, 2020 until April 6, 2020.

We will of course keep you informed of the evolution of the situation.

Yours sincerely
Jérôme Selmer
President..."

Of course, even after they resume business there will be some delays, think that even the distributors in every country have the same problems.

Not necessarily, there are very few dealers keeping a large stock of such expensive horns.

The Dutch importer has a certain number of Altos and Tenors of the most common models but I recently enquired for a baritone and there was ONE YEAR waiting list.

Having said this, normally, before this crisis , Selmer was a lot more responsive than Yanagisawa or Keilwerth which I have ordered for some people I know.

Generally speaking France is closed for business. Other than essential businesses those that require people being together are, by order, closed.

Individual craftsmen and workers can continue business as long as they are not meeting with the public (i.e working remotely).

Just to be picky, the message from Jerome Selmer mentions the Paris headquarters and showroom but not the factory.

I imagine that it will also be closed.

My understanding is that the factory would be closed as well if people are working together. I dont think saxophones are built alone at Selmer.

Id make a comment about the NRA but I will refrain.

I will just say that in France Saxophone companies would not fall under the description of an essential business.

If its not related to communications, medical, food, transport and tabacs the country is pretty much closed. Im sure there are a few more exceptions but I cant think of them right now. The main point is France is pretty much closed for business and production.

The Tabac shops (cigarette shops) are open because they distribute the press and they also sell administrative stamps for the government that are used as a form of payment for administrative dues.
