Mademoiselle Karen-Nikola LUTZ a étudié le saxophone classique avec Jean-Marie Londeix à Bordeaux (1989/90), puis avec le professeur Bernd Konrad à Stuttgart (1992-96) en même temps que la théorie musicale.
Comme instrumentiste, elle aborde aussi l'improvisation libre et maîtrise toutes les nouvelles techniques et modes de jeu utilisés dans la musique contemporaine.
En Musique classique elle a joué avec des artistes internationaux comme Sainkho Namtchylak, Peter Kowald, Kasumi, Suddeninfant et a créé de nouvelles œuvres de Makiko Nishikaze, Violeta Dinescu, Helmut Ohring, Mark Lorenz, Kysela, etc…
En tant que compositeur elle a abordé différent styles et procédés d'écriture, en particuler dans des « installations sonores ». Elle a participé à des „performance musique et danse" et travaillé les arts audiovisuels dans un esprit de pluridisciplinarité.
Elle a dirigé un certain nombre de manifestations interdisciplinaires, en collaboration avec le vidéaste Kasumi et a travaillé avec la danseuse et chorégraphe Fabienne Chyle.
Mademoiselle Karen-Nikola Lutz enseigne le saxophone classique à la Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst de Stuttgart. Elle vit et travaille dans cette ville.

Enseignement

studied classical saxophone 1989/90 with Jean-Marie Londeix in Bordeaux and 1992-96 with Prof. Bernd Konrad in Stuttgart and musical theory. As instrumentalist she focusses in free improvised music and contemproary classical music. She played with international artists like Sainkho Namtchylak, Peter Kowald, Kasumi, Suddeninfant and premiered new works by Makiko Nishikaze, Violeta Dinescu, Helmut Öhring, Mark Lorenz Kysela and others.
As composer she focusses in sound installation, audiovisual art, performance and dance. She runs a number of interdisciplinary collaborations like a duo with video artist Kasumi and works with dancer and choreographer Fabin Chyle.
Nikola Lutz teaches classical saxophone at Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart and lives and works in Stuttgart.

David Dees
David Dees est professeur agrégé de saxophone à l'école de musique de la Texas Tech University.
En tant qu'interprète il s'est beaucoup produit aux Etats Unis.
Il s'est produit en récitals et a réalisé des master classes en Angleterre (au Royal College of Music de Londres et au Conservatoire de Birmingham), et en Suisse (à la Musik-Akademie de Basel et à la Musikhochschule de Lucerne).
Ses activités récentes l'ont conduit à participer à la « Sinfonia da Requiem » de Benjamin Britten avec l'Orchestre symphonique de Dallas, aux spectacles « Shadowlands, avec le Concerto pour saxophone soprano et quatuor à cordes de Teresa LeVelle. Il a joué au Carnegie Recital Hall, au Whittier College et à l'Université de Pepperdine. Il a créé le Concerto pour Saxophone soprano de John Mackey avec la Texas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble.
Il s'est produit au Congrès Mondial du Saxophone à Montréal et à Ljubjana (Slovénie), au Symposium international du saxophone de la United States Navy Band, au « North American Saxophone Alliance Conférence » en Caroline du Sud, Géorgie, Iowa, Arkansas, Nouveau-Mexique et Texas. Il est directeur de la North American Saxophone Alliance (Région 4) et, à ce titre il a accueilli en 2003 à la Texas Tech University la « NASA Région 4 Conférence ».
Il a été lauréat de plusieurs concours d'interprétation, dont celui de l'Université du Texas du Nord (Concours de concerti), celui de Kingsville (Young Artist Competition), celui de la « North American Saxophone Alliance » et celui de la « Fischoff National Chamber Music ».
Il fait partie des jurys de la « North American Saxophone Alliance » pour la musique classique.
Son enregistrement de « Shadowlands », concerto pour saxophone soprano et quatuor à cordes de Teresa LeVelle, est disponible chez Innova Recordings.
David Dees a obtenu son baccalauréat de musique à l'Université du Nord Texas où il fut l'élève de Debra Richtmeyer, et sa maîtrise de musique à la Northwestern University, où il fut l'élève de Frédéric Hemke.
Il a reçu une distinction exceptionnelle de l'Université, « Texas Tech Award » présentée par Mortar Board et Omicron Delta Kappa.
Avant d'être professeur à l'Université Texas Tech David Dees était saxophoniste dans la musique militaire des États-Unis (Pershing's Own), à Washington, DC.

David Dees is Associate Professor of Saxophone in the School of Music at Texas Tech University. He has appeared throughout North America and has presented recitals and master classes at the Royal College of Music in London, The Birmingham Conservatory, and in Switzerland at Musik-Akademie der Stadt Basel and at Musikhochschule Luzerne. Recent activities include performances of Benjamin Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem with the Dallas Symphony, performances of Teresa LeVelle's Shadowlands, concerto for soprano saxophone and string quartet in Carnegie Recital Hall, Whittier College and at Pepperdine University, and performances of John Mackey's Concerto for Soprano Saxophone with the Texas Tech University Symphonic Wind Ensemble. He has performed at World Saxophone Congresses in Montreal and Ljubjana, Slovenia, the United States Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, and at North American Saxophone Alliance Conferences in South Carolina, Georgia, Iowa, Arkansas, New Mexico and Texas. He has been a prizewinner in several performance competitions including the University of North Texas Concerto Competition, Kingsville Young Artist Competition, the North American Saxophone Alliance Competition and the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. He serves as Region 4 Director of the North American Saxophone Alliance and hosted the 2003 NASA Region 4 Conference at Texas Tech University. He has served as a member of the jury for the North American Saxophone Alliance Classical Performance Competition. His recording of "Shadowlands, concerto for soprano saxophone and string quartet," by Teresa LeVelle is available on Innova Recordings. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of North Texas where he was a student of Debra Richtmeyer and his Master of Music degree from Northwestern University where he was a student of Frederick Hemke.
