Hahaha! Prepare for your head to explode! Here is another insane tenor sax solo transcription by Sam Dillon. Believe it or not, this is Cherokee at 400 beats per minute that came out on Facebook yesterday. Yes, you read that correctly……. It's just a fact of life that if you lock a jazz musician in a room in isolation or quarantine, they will not survive without a clear unfathomable goal and musical purpose. For some unknown reason, Sam Dillon and the bass player Yosuke have decided that their purpose in life while in isolation is to play Cherokee as fast as humanly possible. I will warn you now that if high speeds scare you, you might want to put on your seatbelt before pushing the play button on this video (some motion sickness pills might help also…..).

Well done guys! This pandemic better end soon or all these great jazz players in isolation will convert every tune from the great American songbook to 400+ tempos and random odd meters just to keep themselves entertained!

Baptiste Herbin (famous French player) posted a video a few days ago, same song but 460 bpm.
Just to be clear, I transcribed this because I thought it was a good solo with many interesting bebop lines. The speed of 400 was a secondary thing. I could care less about the speed. I have had a bunch of people email me about guys doing it at 460 or 500 or 600. Almost like, look Sam didn't win........ Who cares? If it is a great solo, I am interested. Sam's solo was filled with language which attracted me to it.

Sorry about that, I hadn't had my morning coffee yet. I haven't heard Baptiste's version yet.........

No problem with that, I didn't meant that way but I understand it can be misunderstood.
Herbin is a great player too and music isn't sport.
I am sure everyone agree on this.
