I have a Noblet Clarinet that my daughter played 4 years in high school. It was a hand me down from an older cousin. I'm hopeing someone might be able to help us identify it's age and possible value. I don't know much about wind instruments (I play Guitar), so any info would be greatly appreciated. To begin with it has a Selmer HS mouthpiece, the only #'s I can find are 162910. Inside the case is a label from a repair dept with a date of 7/22/1987 which is where our cousin had some pad work done when she used it in high school band. Also what is the safest and most efficient way to clean it? Thanks

don't get too excited about the value. Last time i looked they normally sell for around $70 -150 on ebay depending upon the model.

Thanks Steve for the info. New problem now. After goint to the link and looking at those instruments I,m doubting what I have is even a Noblet. It came in a Noblet case, but there are no identifing marks, emblems, ect. All it has is the #162910 and a Selmer HS mouthpiece(made in France). Is their someway to identify what this instrument truly is? Thank you for your time.

cases are cases .. they may be misleading as to the contents.

If you can send me some pics I may be able to identify the manufacturer. and i'll post them so others can see.

I just PM (Private Message) you. You can check your PMs by clicking on the Private Message link in the upper right of the page

While you'll never be the envy of the R-13 crowd, there's nothing wrong with a Noblet horn. Assuming it's never been used as a hammer, it can be fixed up just fine and give good service.

The same can be said of many of the Signet horns, the similar line to the Noblet produced by Selmer. Other than one model from the 1950's that I've been told to "avoid", they are good enough for most anything that you would want to use it for.

Totally agree Terry! I have a Mazzeo Signet and it rivals my R-13 in every way! I love that horn. Any of the vintage non-R-13's will be great. Noblets, Selmer Signets, Evette and Schaffers, etc., will serve you well. I sat next to a military Clarinetist last week at a gig and he had an Evette and Schaffer A Clarinet with a Backun Fat boy barrel and he said he returned his R-13 A because he liked this horn better. No joke. And this dude could play! Good luck to you!
