I have an Indiana bari sax, serial number 18xxx. It has the beveled tone holes (indicating a martin stencil), but it doesn't call itself a Martin Indiana, it jsut has the upside down triangular "Indiana" logo on the bell with the Indian head in the center. I can't find any info on the Indiana company, aside from the fact that it was bought out by Martin. If I go by the Martin serial number chart, that pouts this horn at 1920 for age.

Can anyone tell me aobut the Indiana company before the buyout? Also, is this a Martin stencil? If so, is this real a 1920 horn? I have a hard time believing that I have a horn that old that I didn't realize is that old, but it very well could be.

Thanks!

p.s. the keys are laq'd to match the body. No nickel plated student horn styling.

He has pics in his listing in the for sale area. I was looking at it last night. It doesn't have the front F, and he doesn't have a pic of the palm keys. It appears to be one which uses the "middle" side key for both C and high E, as there are only 2 side keys. It may go to High F, but I couldn't tell.

As I understand, Martin bought them in 1928 and the one I have is from 1933. I will try to find where I saw a serial number listing. My alto is from 1933 and is basically a Martin HC series II with no front F or high C# adjuster. It also has the alt Eb key on the front rather than the rear. In about 1930 Martin started to use the 2 only RH palm keys with one that opens the C and high E. I service a typewriter Bari from 1930 that is set up this way. I suspect that your Indiana would be quite similar to a 20s Martin.

That actually sounds pretty much like my bari to a T...thanks for the info.

I saw something about one from 1935 that looked a lot liek mine, and the 2 side key mechanism is actually a rather interesting concept.

I'll try to get a couple of pics aorund incase anyone wants them or thinks they might be able to help.

Even though I have her for sale...the more I play her again, the less I want to let her go.
