I have been playing around with rhythms and other ideas for a little while now, and I knew I wanted to write a couple of melodies. So anyways, here is my first ever attempt at writing a song, a simple 12 Bar Minor Blues in Cmin. K. Ballad Blues

Let me know what you think. The backing is just a piano/drum/bass line I wrote in Musescore and exported to mp3.

Great stuff Jared!

I am very impressed! I really like the feel that you have created for this, it brings to mind Stanley Turrentine's version of 'Don't Mess With Mr T'. (Here is a link to Stanley playing it live in case you aren't familiar with it -
)

Be warned though, songwriting is the hardest musical discipline of them all IMHO! To clarify that statement, writing is one thing but coming up with a tune that stays in peoples heads and they will hum is akin to musical alchemy! Many musicians have been driven mad by their inability to write even one memorable tune. If you have time before the arrival of your new family member I would recommend watching the movie 'Armadeus' which deals with this phenomena in a very entertaining way!

Thanks Bill! I had not heard that tune before, definitely a similar bass walk going on! I love the sound of the triplet quarter/eighth sound.

Its all fun for me in the tune writing, not trying to make it great. Funny note, I was humming a song today and didnt realize it was the melody from my tune until 5 minutes later. Definitely not going to stick in anyones head the way I played it though, but I'll edit up the sheet music and get it posted for everyone so they can actually properly play my song :)

Still may have to check out the movie if I can get it done!

Sorry I misspelt the name of the movie. It is actually 'Amadeus' and it is one of the greatest movies of all time, winning 8 academy awards back in 1984! It is the fictionalised biography of Antonio Salieri, a composer who is driven insane by the brilliance of his contemporary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arguably the greatest songwriter of them all!
