Hi all
I know this is a strange request but was wondering if anyone has (or the means to getting a free copy of) "I wanna be like you" from the jungle book. ITs the monkey song if you don't recognise it, but I think its great so will try to arrange it for a jazz band I play in. It would be great if I had a skleton score to work from, even if it is just the tune for now :)
Many thanks, and sorry for such an obscure query!!

You may know all this, but that's one of many great songs by the Sherman brothers (Richard?/Robert?)..staff writers for Disney. Performed by the one and only Louis Prima, who also did a voice in the film. I love that movie, along with Aristocats one of the jazzier Disney sountracks.

So, that's one that's actually in the BIAB file repository. If you're a BIAB user, you can get that via the following link... it's filed under "I"...if you don't use BIAB, I could e mail you a pdf of the lead sheet and midi file. Just send me a message.

I play in a traditional jazz band that does this very close to the English Kenny Ball Band version. If you PM me I'd be happy to send you PDF files of the chords (in concert) and the lead (transposed for Bb instruments).

In 1923 or so, Clarence Williams' Blue Five, with Sidney Bechet sarrusophone, Buster Bailey soprano saxophone, Louis Armstrong cornet, and Eva Taylor vocal (C. Williams' wife) made a recording of MANDY, MAKE UP YOUR MIND. The out-chorus followed Bechet's sarrusphone solo chorus, and the line that Armstrong played in the first several measures was exactly like the later tune from JUNGLE BOOK, I WA'NA BE LIKE YOU.

And another thing Dave: If you're familiar with Cap'n John Handy's iconic alto solo riff on "Ice Cream", IMHO it's lifted straight from Bechet's "China Boy". I've been quoting Handy for years and only recently heard the Bechet tune.

Cap'n John Handy has never been one of my favorites but I am familiar with some of his recordings. Can't say I recall the one you mentioned, though. Looks like each era may have been ripping off previous eras' melodic themes - i'm sure some of Bechet's great tunes came from the classics.

I found it interesting that George Bruns was credited with being the music guy on the film JUNGLE BOOK. Bruns played trombone and tuba with several of the revival-era trad bands including the Firehouse Five plus Two, the Castle Jazz Band, and Turk Murphy. No wonder the music from that film was so good. Well Tam, I count 6 pretty useful replies to your "obscure" tune question. Are you still interested in the answers?
Hi I was wondering if you would be able to help me. I play with a Jazz Work Shop and would love to have a go at "I Wanna Be Like You", I think it would be quite good fun. I am looking for music for this song, ideal in concert, B flat and E flat. Would really appreciate it is someone could help. Thanks :)
