Sometime ago I recorded an album with one of the major jazz players of the italian scene (and not only), a really great tenor player that maybe you might know: Max Ionata.
It has been a wonderful experience to me , very challenging and very stimulating at the same time.
I wrote all the tunes of that record, a two tenor sax project.
I decided to share this experience on my youtube channel.
This is the first episode.
The next week I will upload the second one: A sax battle with a giant...
So you will discover if I survived that battle or if I went to the jazz hospital...
Bye, hope you enjoy the video

Awesome!

I'm impatient, so instead of waiting until next week, I'm going to go ahead and buy that album.

Max is probably my favorite all-around tenor player in the current jazz scene. For some reason he's not really that well known here in the states, so it can be hard to find some of his recordings, especially those on which he's not the session leader.

I also like the funk/swing switch in your composition.

As an interesting related take, have you heard the tune Swunk by the Joshua Redman Elastic Band (on the album Momentum). It's similar in that it's a swing/funk mix, except that both components are played simultaneously. The drummer (Brian Blade, I think) plays this unique groove that is clearly recognizable as swing and, simultaneously, as funk. It's like one of those bistable perceptual illusions in that, depending on what part of the groove you attend to, you can switch between hearing one vs. the other. If you haven't heard it, you should really check it out. It's pretty incredible.

@mmichel thank you, you can find the album links both for portals (Itunes, apple music, deezer and others) and for pisical cd copies. I do non know however the shipping cost for the cd to the us...I know "Swunk", a great tune. There are many tracks based on funk grooves in the Redman's discography (I have almost every cd that he released) like "Jig a jug", "hide and seek" and others, of course both Joshua and the band are absolutely great!

@Alratr Thank you. Recording this album has been a great experience to me, because I had a "double role", I was both a saxplayer and composer. Writing and arranging the tunes for two tenor saxohpones was something that I wanted to do since many years....and finally I did it.
