Believe it or not, I was just on the phone with Bob Cranshaw, Sonny Rollins bassist, when I heard in the backround a voice saying "welcome to carneige hall." then I realized they were doing the 50th anniversary concert! just a funny bit of information.

I almost went to that concert tonight, but I had just flopped down about 45 to hear a double feature with Christian McBrides trio and Ron Carters Golden Strikers Trio. Both were slammin' but I kinda liked the relaxed delicate feel of Ron Carters group better then Christian McBrides in your face balls to the wall trio.

Plus I had some home work I had to catch up on.

I tried to get tickets yesterday - but they were solidly sold out, except for a few obstructed view seats (probably would have been ok).

Glad that Rollins can sell out Carnegie Hall.

Did anyone go? Any reports?

It was great. Great to see Sonny, and a packed, Carnegie Hall turned out to see this giant of jazz who has given us so much meaningful music. He got a standing ovation before he played a note. So much love and respect between artist & audience. Not the "best" Sonny I ever heard by far but he's still a master artist who at least to me plays with a daring honesty and always in the moment. I'll cherish the experience. BTW and for what's it is worth I saw him 5 nites; 3 sets a nite at the Vanguard way back in early 70's (I think) and could not come close to putting into words what I heard.
