I guess you missed the most important part...it has an ELEPHANT on it!!!!!! :bluewink:

I don't get it either...but then again, I don't understand why people are willing to spend 800+ for a vintage Link because someone says it's from a sweet vintage and it's a killer piece.

Different strokes...

HA! I did see that comment. The thing is, all Jumbo's have an elephant on them so it's really not anything to point out.

Yeah, I'm with you on the expensive vintage pieces. I'd sooner buy a bunch of new, cheaper pieces to try before I shell out hundreds on one piece that may not play.

I shared a high dollar bottle of vintage wine that tasted like S%$#@*&^%^$#[email protected]@%^*&*

At least with a mouthpiece you can resell it for $399. The wine was gone. To each his own.

10mfan says it himself: "GUYS ARE GOING CRAZY FOR THESE BLUE JUMBO JAVA MOUTHPIECES..." Crazy, as in irrational. And yup, that's right about at the top of the price range these can fetch.

I can't remember who, but someone who's somebody plays a blue Jumbo Java. It's not the first time we've seen something like this. What makes the Brilhart 3-band lig so fabulous, other than it's being what Kenny Garrett uses? Just a heads-up, the next big thing seems looks to be the Martin M ligature. I believe Phil Woods sports one of these.

I have sold pieces for big money to South Korean players. It seems that saxophone is becoming 'the thing' for older (with means) South Koreans. If any S. Korean members would like add the info would help the rest of us understand the market.

I've said for a few years now that I dont get why people are buying the blue jumbo javas for crazy money. (because theyre blue????)---how nuts! I MENTION THE ELEPHANT, BECAUSE THE BUYERS FOR THESE DONT WANT THE BLUE ONES WITHOUT THE ELEPHANT---WOULD YOU???... LOL)
In South Korea and Japan, the altos can go $600+. I saw a couple on ebay hit $800.
Its really nuts, but collectors buy things for reasons we wont understand as players. Some certain horns and mpcs just become the "in" thing, and the craziness begins.
The purple logo yamaha horns are creeping up in value. (because they have a purple logo???).
I have always thought that these blue vandorens, the vintage brilhart ligs, and now the miami florida d8 altos and sops are selling for numbers that really dont make much sense.

To each his own...

Verifiable rarity just about always boosts market value. I had to cough up for my 1931 gold deco Conns because so few horns were gold-plated during a worldwide depression. Same with my soprano and bass made in the late '30s, after the fashion for such instruments was long past.

But how verifiable is it that a given mouthpiece is rare? It must have to do with buzz as well as rarity - who played what, and what people think of those players.

Also, as far as mpcs go, the words NEW YORK are magic. Sometimes HOLLYWOOD too.

the purple logo yamahas I can understand. They are fantastic horns. I have a tenor and alto purple logo and they are great!better then the rest of the yamahas I have tried . Ive had plenty of blue jumbos for alto and tenor and they are good pieces but they play pretty much identical to the black ones. I still have kept my blue jumbo t45 tenor because its a great piece although Im not using it much anymore but the altos Ive had sold for 500.00 on ebay .Dont miss them .they were good but still have a black one that plays just as good if I ever wanted to go back to them from my beechlers
