It's Sherman Irby. Actually not new, he's been on my radar a while, but oh man he sounds good here. JALCO is releasing single videos of their recent recording of Duke Ellington's "Black, Brown and Beige" suite. Here is Come Sunday.... played exquisitely by Mr. Irby.

Sherman Irby is a great player. I've seen JALCO twice, once at Lincoln Center and the first time in Troy, NY. The band was staying at the same hotel in Albany where I was staying with my wife. After the concert, we were having a drink at the hotel bar when members of the band filed in. We got to chat with some of them. The next morning, we saw Sherman having breakfast and went over to tell him how much we enjoyed his playing.

Wow! Thank you for posting that. I am going to watch for more recordings by Mr. Irby. His sound at the beginning is close to "classical" which turns to a "Harlem Nocturne" vibe in the middle and then he brings it back. Amazing control and musicianship lacking in a lot of jazz I hear today.
