Hi,
Welcome to 10M lovers gang ;-). Just GREAT, SUPERB, AWESOME horns.
Just now, I own two of thems and I am making myself some questions, and I hope someone could help me.
I should say they don't take to much air to sound great (it is true than one more than the other one). I find them very free-blowing horns. You can have a look to my signature to find some of my gear.
- #354.xxx - '52: Res-O-Pads, really FREE-blowing horn. Powerfull, lots of projection to the sound, responsive horn. Maybe a tad too much brigth tone.
- #535.xxx - '55 - Doble socket - nickel keywork: Small rivet pads. No leaks at all. Not so free-lowing, less projection and responsive. Dark, warm tone.
A friend of mine owns a 535.xxx identical to mine. Domed metal resos pads. Its tone it's great, in the middle of my two horns' tone, not so bright not so dark, and really free-blowing and responsive. I love this sax. I want that sound, and my friend will keep his horn to the eternity in a vault ;-).
I wonder:
What is the fault for that distinctive tone from? The model they are? pads? Are Res-O-Pads "bright" pads? Sould I repad with metal domed resos pads my 535.xxx?
Thanks in advance,
Anselmo
PS - I have tried them with several mpcs: V16 T75 refaced (main piece), Java T95, RPC 105R, JJ HR* 7*, V16 T7............
