I play for the worship team at my church, and they really like me there. I've performed with a few groups over the last decade or so and done my share of weddings. I've never made a CD although I'm starting to make one and I have a budget multitracker to work with and I have to do everything myself, all the arranging with my outdated MIDI setup. I don't even know how to go about protecting myself properly (copyrighting my songs and getting licensed for other peep's songs, etc,) though I know there are great resources on the net on that. Then I have to find a company to replicate my CD's and distribute them, and I have a whopping $1000 budget or so. Now THAT's small time, baby! How small time are you?

I'm so small time that ...
I'll leave home at 7:00, drive for an hour, set up for an hour, play a 4 hour gig, take down for an hour, drive home for an hour, get home at 3:00 am, pay $20 for gas and tolls, and get paid $60 for the gig. My keyboard sustain pedal broke so I had to order a new one and while I'm at it get a couple boxes of reeds for a total of about $40. At this rate, it costs me money - and about 8 hours out of my life - to play a gig ...

Once a week on Sunday morning, for about three to five minutes I become huge.

People often listen in amazement and shout Amen! And just sometimes near the end, I push my old tenor, the stain glass rattles, and for maybe a split second, the music reaches out and I almost touch the face of God.

After that, the horn goes back into its shabby case. It comes out again at home with my wife hollowing for me to tone it down or me hollowing at my kids to come and practice.

And I am very, very small. And I wait again, for next Sunday. :)

Last time Steve and I hung out, we put a slice of baloney in each shoe, and we felt funny!

small time, produce my own video, do freelance voiceovers, and oh yeah play sax in my office and the parking lot (since leaving the coverband) working on a CD.

for copyright, get Form PA from the copyright website, for duplication if you are on a PC check out www.kunaki.com. I've used them with great results.

God loves you Enviroguy. You are truly blessed. (You can't tell whether I'm serious or not, can you?) Take it any way you want to. Some would say you're a lucky guy.

Really small time!! I'm awed by y'all who actually get paid to play and who can jam, improvise, and play all of that really cool jazz repertoire.. I'm a strictly amateur community band hack, but I have a great time and get to play with my groups at least 3x per week, play lots of concerts of sometimes badly performed classical wind ensemble stuff, many marches, and lots of hokey pop and show tune medleys (which our audiences seem to like no matter how badly we massacre them), and 'cause I'm an obsessively present-at-rehearsal and faithful 'shedder, I get to sit first alto and play most of the alto solos. Small time has its perks!!

I'm sure Marty has noticed that the threads, "Will it Fit" and "How small time are you" are, at least for the moment, lying next to each other.

Well, depending on how small time you are there is no need to worry about fitting, so he will probably keep his mouth shut. Maybe...
